Stainless Steel 904L Pipes & Tubes

A high-alloy austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content, designed for superior resistance to strong reducing acids like sulfuric acid.

Product Overview

Stainless Steel 904L (UNS N08904) is a non-stabilized high-alloy austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. The addition of Copper to this grade gives it greatly improved resistance to strong reducing acids, particularly sulfuric acid. It is also highly resistant to chloride attack-both pitting and crevice corrosion. Grade 904L is non-magnetic in all conditions and possesses excellent weldability and formability. Its high nickel and chromium content provide resistance to corrosion in various environments. Steel Emporium specializes in supplying 904L pipes and tubes for high-stress industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

SS 904L is a higher-alloy grade with 25% Nickel and 4.5% Molybdenum, plus the addition of Copper. This makes it significantly more resistant to pitting and strong acids than 316L.

The 1.5% Copper addition provides excellent resistance to reducing acids, especially sulfuric acid in all concentrations and at temperatures up to 35°C.

No, SS 904L is fully austenitic and non-magnetic in both the annealed and cold-worked conditions.

Yes, with a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number) > 35, SS 904L offers exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and warm chloride environments.

Yes, we supply SS 904L Seamless Pipes and Tubes as per ASTM A312 and A213 standards, with complete Material Test Certificates (MTC) and third-party inspection options.
