Monel K-500 Pipes & Tubes

A precipitation-hardenable Nickel-Copper alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with high strength and hardness.

Alloy K-500 Technical Overview

Monel K-500 (UNS N05500) is a nickel-copper alloy which combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Alloy 400 with the added advantages of greater strength and hardness. These amplified properties are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base and by heating under controlled conditions so that submicroscopic particles of Ni3 (Ti, Al) are precipitated throughout the matrix. Alloy K-500 has approximately three times the yield strength and double the tensile strength when compared with Alloy 400. It is also non-magnetic down to -150°F (-101°C). Steel Emporium provides high-precision Monel K-500 pipes and tubes specifically for heavy-duty marine and oil field applications.

Key Material Advantages

Extreme Strength

Precipitation hardening provides superior mechanical strength and hardness.

Non-Magnetic

Remains non-magnetic even at very low temperatures, unlike other high-strength alloys.

Sour Gas Resistance

Excellent resistance in sour-gas environments, making it ideal for oil fields.

Frequently Asked Questions

Monel K-500 is an age-hardened version of Monel 400. While both have the same corrosion resistance, K-500 has much higher strength and hardness due to the addition of aluminum and titanium.

One of the biggest advantages of K-500 is that it is non-magnetic at room temperature and remains so down to cryogenic temperatures (-150°F).

Age-hardening (precipitation hardening) is a heat treatment that creates microscopic particles in the alloy, which increases the yield strength by approximately three times compared to the standard annealed state.

Yes, Monel K-500 has excellent resistance to sour gas environments and meets NACE MR0175 standards for oil and gas production tools.

Yes, Steel Emporium supplies Monel K-500 in a wide range of NB sizes and schedules, from 1/2" up to 12" and beyond for specialized projects.
