ASTM A672 C60 / C65 / C70 EFW Pipes

High-pressure Electric Fusion Welded (EFW) steel pipes for moderate temperature service - Precision fabricated from pressure vessel quality plates.

ASTM A672 EFW Technical Overview

ASTM A672 is the standard specification for Electric-Fusion-Welded steel pipe for high-pressure service at moderate temperatures. These pipes are fabricated from several grades and classes of pressure vessel quality plate. The grades C60, C65, and C70 are manufactured using ASTM A516 carbon steel plates. While ASTM A671 is used for lower temperatures, ASTM A672 is the preferred choice for moderate temperature applications. Steel Emporium provides these pipes in various classes (e.g., Class 12, 22, 32), ensuring specific heat treatments and 100% radiographic testing as per project requirements.

Key Material Advantages

Pressure Resistance

Designed to withstand extreme internal pressures in industrial piping systems.

Large Size Range

Fabricated in diameters up to 100 inches, filling the gap where seamless pipes end.

Certified Quality

Mandatory testing including Radiography (RT) and Hydro-test for weld integrity.

Frequently Asked Questions

The primary difference is the Service Temperature. ASTM A671 is used for atmospheric and lower temperatures, while ASTM A672 is intended for high-pressure service at moderate temperatures.

Grade C70 is fabricated using ASTM A516 Grade 70 plates, which are pressure-vessel quality carbon steel plates known for high tensile strength.

It depends on the Class. For example, Class 11 and Class 21 require Full Radiography, while Class 12 and Class 22 require Spot Radiography.

The welding method is EFW (Electric Fusion Welding), typically performed using Longitudinally Submerged Arc Welding (LSAW) with filler metal added.

Because seamless pipes are extremely difficult and expensive to produce in very large diameters (above 24"). A672 offers a cost-effective solution for large NB pressure piping without compromising on safety or strength.
