ASTM A213 T11 / T22 / T91 Alloy Steel Tubes

High-pressure Boiler, Superheater, and Heat-Exchanger tubes designed for extreme thermal performance and long-term creep strength.

ASTM A213 Alloy Steel Tube Overview

ASTM A213 (ASME SA213) is the standard specification for seamless ferritic and austenitic alloy-steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes. These tubes are essential for power generation plants where they must withstand high temperatures and high pressures. Popular grades like T11 and T22 are widely used in standard power plant superheaters, while advanced grades like T91 and T92 (9% Chrome) are designed for ultra-supercritical boilers. Steel Emporium provides high-quality A213 tubes with precision wall thickness and mandatory testing to ensure failure-free service in industrial heating environments.

Key Material Advantages

High Heat Stability

Excellent resistance to scaling and oxidation at temperatures up to 650°C.

Creep Resistance

Designed to prevent deformation under high stress and thermal cycles.

Thermal Conductivity

Optimized for efficient heat transfer in exchanger and boiler applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

The primary difference is the product type. A213 covers Tubes (usually smaller diameter, for heat transfer), while A335 covers Pipes (larger diameter, for transporting fluids). They share similar chemical grades (T-grades vs P-grades).

T91 (9Cr-1Mo-V) is used because it provides much higher creep strength and oxidation resistance than T22. This allows for higher steam temperatures and thinner tube walls, increasing plant efficiency.

ASTM A213 covers only seamless ferritic and austenitic steel tubes. Seamless construction is preferred for high-integrity boiler and pressure applications.

Grade T22 is generally used at metal temperatures up to 1075°F (580°C). For service above this, T91 or T92 is often required.

Yes, hardness testing is mandatory as per the ASTM A213 specification to ensure the material has been properly heat-treated and meets the strength requirements.
